The Midwest Presbytery of the RPCNA met on March 2, 2023 at the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church in the idyllic countryside south of Morning Sun, Iowa. The beautiful setting itself is enough to drive a servant of Christ to break forth in praise to the Almighty, but the LORD provided many other reasons to praise Him.
While two full days of business were on the docket, the court was able, under the efficient leadership of Moderator Joseph Friedly, to finish its work in one day, having extended the time allotted for work that day by less than half an hour.
- A Judicial Commission appointed at the Fall 2022 meeting to handle a delicate matter of discipline reported a satisfactory conclusion to their business.
- The presbytery granted a petition from the San Antonio (Texas) RP Mission Church to become a fully organized congregation of the RPNCA.
- Funding to explore a church plant in Little Rock, Arkansas was also granted.
- Student-under-care, Bradley Cupples, was unanimously sustained in his Level One Preaching and Personal Godliness exams.
- The court was blessed to hear from Ralph Pontier, Fraternal Delegate from the Central Classis US of the United Reformed Churches in North America.
- A study committee appointed at the last meeting of presbytery to study a paper proposing the refining of the RP Testimony’s language regarding abortion reported. The original paper along with the committee’s report and recommendations were forwarded to Synod.
- The hard work of a committee previously appointed to craft a Child Protection Policy for the presbytery is ongoing.
- The first Lord’s Day of each quarter was appointed as a special day of prayer that the LORD might raise up elders in the churches of the Midwest presbytery, and the 16th of April was appointed as a special day of prayer that God would provide a Pastor for the San Antonio RPC.
