History

How far would you travel to attend a faithful church? Would you worship in someone’s living room? How about in a garage? Or in a classroom? When Springs Reformed Church was organized in 1981, it was formed from a core group of families who had been driving from Colorado Springs to Westminster (over an hour-long drive) every Lord’s Day. For the first three years, Springs Reformed met in Bob and Ruth Mann’s living room. And though God graciously provided Springs with a church building to serve the Lord with in 1992, it was only After SRC had faithfully worshipped the Lord in a 5-car garage for almost ten years.

Growth

From those first few families who were willing to drive over an hour or worship in a garage, we have grown to be a church of 123 communicant members and 78 baptized members. Some of the original members of SRC have been blessed to see God’s faithfulness in the baptisms and professions of faith of children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren! In the 42 years since SRC was established, God has also granted us the opportunity to plant another church. In 2011, we planted a mission church in the Tri-Lakes community of northern Colorado Springs, which has now been organized as Black Forest Reformed Church.

Worship and Fellowship

As a church body, the core part of our fellowship is our time worshipping together on the Lord’s Day—singing God’s praises to and with one another, hearing God’s word preached, and joining together in prayer for one another. Our other times of fellowship include bi-monthly prayer groups, Bible studies, prayer time after evening worship service, monthly fellowship meals, youth fellowship events, presbytery retreats, Sabbath school for all ages, and Psalm-sings with our daughter church, Black Forest.

Trials

Though we find great joy in our worship and fellowship, we have not been completely without trials, and the past two years have been especially hard on SRC. In May of 2022, our pastor resigned, and we had to move out of the building that God so faithfully provided for us 30 years earlier. Even so, God is still, as he has always been, faithful. Though we met for a time in the afternoon at Black Forest Reformed Church, and now worship at a school and experience the inconveniences that come with that, every Sunday the Lord has graciously provided a place for us to worship. And though we have had different preachers every week, and sometimes different preachers morning and evening, the Lord has provided (through the hard work of our elders) someone to preach for us morning and evening every single Sunday.

Rejoicing

It seems like the trials we have been through in lacking a building and a pastor are ending. We eagerly await installing our pastor elect, Ed Blackwood, on December 8^th, Lord willing, in the building we have recently purchased and are renovating. In the future, SRC may be without a building or a pastor, and we may face unknown trials as believers in this world. Even so, God is and will be faithful, as he has always been to us. We pray that as a church body we will be able to sing with the Psalmist for many generations to come: “the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations”. (Psalm 100:5)

Pray

• Pray for our pastor elect, Ed Blackwood, that his transition between working at RPTS back into pastoral ministry would be smooth and that our congregation would minister to him and his family as well.

• Pray that we will be able to renovate our building in time for our desired December 8 move-in date, and that we will be able to faithfully steward our building for years to come.

• Please pray that each member will faithfully live out our calling to live as lights in a dark world, and that God will give each of us opportunities to witness to our neighbors.
